St. Francis Welcomes Fr. Carl Jude Hood as Pastor

Fr. Carl Jude Hood has been installed as the new Pastor of St. Francis of Assisi as of December 3rd. A life-long Memphian, Fr. Hood attended St. Joseph School and Bishop Byrne High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts in English and Philosophy from the University of Mississippi in 1982, and his Master of Divinity from St. Meinrad Seminary in 1986.

Ordained on November 29, 1986, he has been a Roman Catholic priest for over thirty years. He began his ministry at Holy Rosary parish, followed by an appointment as full time teacher and Chaplain of Bishop Byrne High School from 1988 to 1993. In 1993, he was appointed pastor of both St. Mary in Bolivar, TN and St. Jude the Apostle in Selmer, TN. During this time, a new church was built in Selmer (1998), and a new rectory in Bolivar (2005). He ministered to the patients of Bolivar’s Western Mental Health Institute (1993-2006), as well as the inmates of both the Hardeman County and Whiteville Prisons (1997-2006).  In 1998, Fr. Hood was elected President of the Hardeman County Ministerial Association, and served in this role through 2006.

Most recently, Fr. Hood has served as pastor of St. Therese the Little Flower Parish (2006-2017), as well as the Director of Continuing Education of the clergy (2007-2016). In 2017, Most Reverend Martin Holley appointed Fr. Hood as the Episcopal Vicar for Clergy and Vice-Chancellor for the Diocese.
