Religious Education for Children

Importance of Religious Education

All Parish students must be registered and regularly attending religious education classes, either at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School, in another Catholic school or in the St. Francis Parish Religious Education (PRE) classes.   Attendance is required in order to be involved in any sports activities of St. Francis of Assisi Church.

St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School

Since 2004, St. Francis of Assisi parish has operated St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School (SFA) as a parish school within the Diocese of Memphis in Tennessee.  The school was previously part of a K-12 diocesan school – St. Benedict at Auburndale (SBA).  The diocese continues to operate SBA on a campus adjacent to the SFA property.  SFA is now a full time 3K-8th grade Catholic school (with an additional part-time program for 2, 3 and 4 year olds).  For information about St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School, visit the school’s website, www.sfawolves.org  (which is also accessible by clicking on the school icon on the home page of this site), or phone the school at 901-388-7321.  Mrs. Kathleen Scherer is the school principal and Mrs. Susan Fetz is the Director of Admissions.

Parish Religious Education (PRE)

Our parish offers classes in religious education for public school students in grades 4K through High School.  For information about our PRE Program, visit the drop down menu for this page that appears on the menu above.

Sacrament Classes:

In the Diocese of Memphis, First Reconciliation and First Eucharist are received in the student’s Second Grade year. The sacrament of Confirmation is administered in the student’s Eighth Grade year.

  • Diocesan requirements state that a student must be enrolled in religious education classes for at least one year prior to their sacrament year.
  • Parents of students in a sacrament year are required to attend parent sacrament meetings.  Please see First Communion or Confirmation pages for details.

If your student has not been instructed in our faith and/or celebrated the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist, and/or Confirmation at the traditional ages, please contact Betty Siano, Director of Religious Education at 381-2545 for more information regarding a class for them.

New Parishioners:

Families who have recently moved into the parish may fill out a 2016-2017 Registration Form available through the drop down menu for this page accessible on the menu above.  Please complete the form, include copies of the child’s baptism and birth certificates and return to the church office as soon as possible.

Volunteers:

Our PRE program is staffed by volunteers.  If you are interested in becoming a Religious Education Catechist, Assistant Catechist or Parent Volunteer, please contact Betty Siano at betty.siano@sfawolves.org.
