Independence Day Mass – Tuesday, July 4th

St. Francis to Welcome New Parochial Administrator, Senior Priest

Effective July 1st, St. Francis of Assisi parish welcomed Father Carl Jude Hood as its new Parochial Administrator and Father Johnnie Smith as a Senior Priest assigned to the parish.  Father Hood was previously pastor of St. Therese the Little Flower parish in North Memphis for the past 11 years.  He is a native Memphian and attended St. Joseph School and Bishop Byrne High School.  Father Smith had been pastor of St. Paul the Apostle parish in Whitehaven.  He has retired from administrative work and has been granted Senior Priest status.  He will be assisting in the sacramental and pastoral work of the parish.  Father Rob Ballman will remain at St. Francis as Parochial Vicar.

Also effective July 1st, Father Mauricio Abeldaño  became the new Parochial Administrator of Sacred Heart Church in Humboldt and St. Matthew Mission in Milan.  Congratulations to Father Abeldaño on his first opportunity to lead a parish.  Father Robert Marshall has been appointed Parochial Administrator of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception parish.

It is anticipated that this fall His Excellency, the Most Reverend Martin D. Holley, D.D., Bishop of Memphis in Tennessee, will travel to each parish to install Parochial Administrators as pastors.

Youth Ministry: LifeTeen and EDGE Off and Running!

Both of our Youth Ministry groups made a strong return to regularly scheduled meetings in September.

Our Senior High Youth Ministry program – LifeTeen:  Leading Teens Closer to Christ – serves parishioners in grades 9 through 12.  They meet each Sunday night.  All teens are invited to join the group for the 5:30pm Sunday Mass and then move to the Parish Life Center for the LifeTeen gathering from 6:30 to 8:30pm.  You are also welcome to attend an earlier Mass with your family and just join the group at 6:30pm.  Meetings begin with dinner and include social activities, prayer, faith sharing, reflection, and fun.

Our Junior High Youth Ministry program – EDGE – has moved to Wednesday evenings and serves students in 7th and 8th grades. We welcome all 7th and 8th grade parishioners – those who attend St. Francis of Assisi School, those who attend the Parish Religious Education program, and those who may receive their religious education elsewhere.   The theme for this semester is “Superheroes,” and the participants have already played LaserTag, donned superhero capes, and learned about the heroic virtues of a disciple of Jesus Christ.  EDGE gatherings begin at 7:00pm and end at 8:30pm – all in the Parish Life Center.
