Interested in Becoming Catholic? Join RCIA Classes – Wednesday Nights at 7:00 pm.

Are you interested in learning about or joining the Catholic Faith? Are you Catholic and wish to have a deeper knowledge of your Faith? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process through which adults become full members of the Catholic Church. There are several stages involved in the process beginning with a period of inquiry to find out more about Catholicism.

If you are interested in RCIA, please visit our website to complete an inquiry form: www.stfrancismemphis.org; click on “Becoming Catholic,” scroll down to the form and submit after completion. A team member will contact you.

RCIA meets on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm in Room 108 of the Parish Life Center, September through Easter.  Classes began September 5th and continue through the Spring.

Please call or email the church office with questions: 901-756-1213 or office@stfrancismemphis.org.

Catechists and Assistants needed for PRE

Catechists and assistants are needed for the 2018-2019 Parish Religious Education program (PRE). The heart of our program is the dedication of our catechists and their willingness to share their faith with our children.

Our catechists teach in teams of two with a teen assistant for 3rd grade and below. All lesson plans and materials are provided for you and all fees are waived for the children of our volunteers. Email or stop by the Religious Education Office to see what opportunities are available. We can show you curriculum and lesson plans that will help you choose the grade that is best for you. Please prayerfully consider joining us in this very important teaching ministry.

For more information, please contact Betty Siano at betty.siano@stfrancismemphis.org or call (901) 756-1213.

Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary – A Holy Day of Obligation

Wednesday, August 15, we celebrate the solemnity of the Assumption of Mary.

As it does not fall on a Monday, it is a holy day of obligation and Masses will be celebrated at 8:15 AM, 12:00 PM and 7:00 PM.

The Church Office and Parish Life Center will be closed.

Solemnities  are celebrations that mark the most significant events in the life of Jesus, his Mother, and those most closely united to him in the work of salvation, such as St. Joseph, St. John the Baptist, and Sts. Peter and Paul. Solemnities take precedence over other liturgical celebrations, except the Sundays of Advent, Lent, Holy Week, and the Easter season, when they are generally transferred to the following Monday.  The Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary is the teaching that the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory [Pius XII, Munificentissimus Deus 44].

Baptism Preparation Class – September 20th

The next Baptismal Preparation class for parents wanting to have their child Baptized at St. Francis is Thursday, September 20th, at 7:00 pm in the Parish Life Center, room 113.  Both parents should attend. Godparents are always welcome, but are not required to attend.

Anyone wishing to attend this class should register by calling the parish office at (901) 756-1213 no later than 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, September 18th.  Please note that if the class is not full, it will be rescheduled, so if you are interested in attending, or plan to attend, PLEASE call the church office and register.

Crosses Needed for the Youth Ministry Cross Wall

While our youth summer program winds down, the youth room is being redecorated and we would love for the parish to help us! We are looking for crosses of any kind or size for our new cross wall! If you would like to donate, please drop a cross off in the parish office with a note indicating”for the Youth Ministry Cross Wall.”  Also, please be sure to enclose your name and contact information. God Bless and thank you for supporting the SFA youth!
