Room in the Inn

St. Francis is joining with other churches in the Memphis area to serve those experiencing homelessness. You can help by inviting the homeless to be our guests at Room in the Inn, every Thursday night, from November 2nd through the end of March, 2018, at the Ozanam Center (St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen), 1306 Monroe. We will be offering food and shelter to those in need of our aid. You can assist in this endeavor by preparing and serving dinner, sharing in fellowship, arranging sleeping quarters or serving as a Laundry Angel. There is a job for everyone.

Please stop by the Room in the Inn table in the Narthex, Saturday & Sunday, October 7th and 8th after Mass.  For more  information, please call Jim Burge at (901) 254-1595.

You may also help by donating much needed items, a complete listing of which will appear in an upcoming bulletin.

If Thursdays are not convenient, you can find out the host locations of all other nights during this five-month period by visiting www.roomintheinn-memphis.org.

Hurricane Relief!

His Excellency, the Most Reverend Martin D. Holley, D.D., Bishop of Memphis in Tennessee, announced an emergency second collection for Hurricane Harvey on the weekend of September 9 and 10. Collected funds were to be used both to support the humanitarian and recovery efforts of Catholic Charities USA and to provide pastoral and rebuilding support to impacted dioceses through the auspices of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB.) Per Bishop Holley, “our hearts and prayers go out to all those impacted by this devastation. We pray for all those who have lost their lives and been injured.”

If you missed this second collection,  or would like to donate for all those affected by recent disasters, you may donate online by clicking on either the green giving link or the Catholic Charities Hurricane Relief link to your right.

Please be generous in support of this humanitarian effort.

Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary – A Holy Day of Obligation

This Tuesday, August 15, we celebrate the solemnity of the Assumption of Mary.

As it does not fall on a Monday, it is a holy day of obligation and Masses will be celebrated at 8:15 AM, 12:00 PM and 7:00 PM. The Church Office and Parish Life Center will be closed.  Solemnities  are celebrations that mark the most significant events in the life of Jesus, his Mother, and those most closely united to him in the work of salvation, such as St. Joseph, St. John the Baptist, and Sts. Peter and Paul. Solemnities take precedence over other liturgical celebrations, except the Sundays of Advent, Lent, Holy Week, and the Easter season, when they are generally transferred to the following Monday.  The Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary is the teaching that the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory [Pius XII, Munificentissimus Deus 44].

Parish Religious Education Classes Have Resumed

Parish Religious Educations (PRE) classes resumed Sunday, September 10th, but it is not too late to register your child.

Preparation for sacraments is a two-year process.  This means in order to receive First Communion and Penance in 2nd grade, the child must be enrolled in Catholic School or PRE in both 1st and 2nd grades.  In order to receive Confirmation in 8th grade, the child must be enrolled in Catholic School or PRE in both 7th and 8th grades.

Has your child missed receiving his/her sacraments at the traditional time?  We can help!  We have classes for older students that will prepare them for Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation.

PRE Registration forms are available in the Church office and also online under the tab Registration for PRE Classes.
